How to reach Tugasi village, Uttarakhand?

Option 1: Kailashrath's Pre-arranged Transport (Recommended)

  1. Mode: Shared Tempo Traveller or SUV arranged by Kailashrath Treks
  2. Route: Rishikesh → Devprayag → Srinagar → Rudraprayag → Karnaprayag → Pipalkoti → Joshimath → Tugasi
  3. Pickup Location: Near Rishikesh Railway Station
  4. Departure Time: Early morning (At 7:00 AM)
  5. Travel Time: ~10–11 hours
  6. Cost: 1100 INR per pax one way [5% GST is extra]


Option 2: By Public Transport (Budget-Friendly)

  1. Step 1: Take a shared jeep or bus from Rishikesh to Joshimath
  2. Buses leave early (~5:00–6:00 AM) from Rishikesh Bus Stand (ISBT)
  3. Duration: 10–12 hours
  4. Step 2: From Joshimath, hire a shared taxi or jeep to Tugasi (~45 mins, via Dhak Village)

Option 3: By Private Taxi (Comfortable & Flexible)

  1. Hire a private cab from Rishikesh to Tugasi or Joshimath
  2. Cost: ₹6,500–₹8,500 depending on vehicle size and season

Things to Carry

  • Trekking shoes : Carry water proof trekking shoes with good grip and ankle support. Do not carry sports shoes.
  • Three layers of warm clothes : Carry two or three-layer jackets, fleece jackets and a padded jacket.
  • Two/Three trek pants : Carry light cotton trek pants. Denim/jeans and shorts are not suitable for trekking.
  • Three t-shirts (collared/dri-fit) : Full sleeved t-shirts that prevent sun burns on the neck and arms. Carry one or two dri-fit t-shirts.
  • Thermals : Carry thermals (top and bottom).
  • Sunglasses : Sunglasses are mandatory. There will be lot of snow on the trek and can cause snow blindness.
  • Cap : At high altitude, the sun is extra harsh so carry a cap to protect yourself.
  • Water proof hand gloves : Carry water proof gloves and avoid woollen gloves as they will get wet if you touch snow.
  • Socks (3-4 pairs) and a pair of woollen socks : Apart from two sports socks, you can take a pair of woollen socks for the night.
  • Headlamp/LED torch : Mandatory
  • Raincoat/Ponchos : At high altitudes, snowfall and rain are quite common and it’s mandatory to carry a poncho so that you don’t get wet. The trek will continue as planned even during rainfall.
  • Lunch box and water bottle : Every participant should have their personal lunch box and a water bottle [insulated type].
  • Toiletries: Keep items like toilet paper, wipes, moisturiser and sunscreen.
  • First Aid Kit: Carry items like few basic medicines, few antiseptics and adhesives.

Itinerary

  1. Your adventure begins with a scenic drive from Haridwar or Rishikesh toTugasi(Karchi), a serene village nestled in the Garhwal Himalayas.
  2. Transport will be arranged at 7 am sharp. This costs Rs 2500 per trekker (both-way) for the journey from Rishikesh to Tugasi and back to Rishikesh on Day 6.
  3. The journey, about 245 km, takes you along the Alaknanda River through the Panch Prayag confluences.
  4. On arrival, check into a guesthouse. Orientation and documentation will be conducted in the evening once member reach the base camp. This night helps you acclimatize before the trek begins.

Mandatory Documents

  1. Medical Certificate should be signed by a registered MBBS doctor and should have the seal of the doctor.
  2. Original and photocopy of Aadhar card required. In case of Foreign Nationals Passport and Visa would be required.
  3. NOC form with participant signature.
  4. Passport sized photograph - 2 no.

Who can participate ?

Anyone who is above 12 years of age with a good physical strength and stamina can participate in the event. Participants should not have any medical issues like Hypertension, Asthma, Diabetes or breathing problems.

Participants should prepare themselves before participating in the trek such that they are able to jog/brisk walk 5 kms in 40 minutes. Participants with a BMI of 30 and above need to get it below 30 before joining the trek.


Preparation :

Strong physical fitness is a must for any Himalayan Treks. Whenever one is undertaking activities like High Altitude Trekking, make sure that you are preparing yourself for the trek in terms of Aerobic fitness, muscle strength and breathing rhythm.
