About

The Youth Leadership Program is a workshop consisting of around six to seven days itinerary on Himalayas, that enable young people under the age of 18 to develop their communication, teamwork skills and leadership skills through practical experience. The program is presented in the form of a small trekking and camping experience amidst the beautiful mountains of Kullu valley. Few important highlights of the program are:

    • New Skills: Try your hands on Rock Climbing and Rappelling. Climbing up a rock wall or rappelling it down enhances your problem solving skill in a totally new environment.
    • Survival Instinct: The trekking part of the program gives you an opportunity to learn about the survival with minimum resources.

How to reach Rumsu Base Camp ?

  • Take a bus from New Delhi/Chandigarh for Manali and get down at Patlikuhal (20 kms before Manali)
  • Transport options are readily available from Patlikuhal for Rumsu village. Sumo – 700 INR while small car – 500 INR.
  • Once at Rumsu village follow the trail for Kailashrath Treks base camp. 
Note: If you are staying already in Manali, take a direct cab for Rumsu village (26 kms)

Things to carry ?

✔️Trekking shoes : Carry water proof trekking shoes with good grip and ankle support. Do not carry sports shoes.
✔️Three layers of warm clothes : Carry two or three-layer jackets, fleece jackets and a padded jacket.
✔️Two/Three trek pants : Carry light cotton trek pants. Denim/jeans and shorts are not suitable for trekking.
✔️Three t-shirts (collared/dri-fit) : Full sleeved t-shirts that prevent sun burns on the neck and arms. Carry one or two dri-fit t-shirts.
✔️Thermals : Carry thermals (top and bottom).
✔️Sunglasses : Sunglasses are mandatory. There will be lot of snow on the trek and can cause snow blindness.
✔️Cap : At high altitude, the sun is extra harsh so carry a cap to protect yourself.
✔️Water proof hand gloves : Carry water proof gloves and avoid woollen gloves as they will get wet if you touch snow.
✔️Socks (3-4 pairs) and a pair of woollen socks : Apart from two sports socks, you can take a pair of woollen socks for the night.
✔️Headlamp/LED torch : Mandatory
✔️Raincoat/Ponchos : At high altitudes, snowfall and rain are quite common and it’s mandatory to carry a poncho so that you don’t get wet. The trek will continue as planned even during rainfall.
✔️Lunch box and water bottle : Every participant should have their personal lunch box and a water bottle [insulated type].

Itinerary

Day 1 : Reporting at Rumsu base camp.

Participants will get down from bus at Patlikuhal and will be taken to the base camp at Rusmu. After freshening up and breakfast members will undergo the registration process. Post lunch participants will take a tour of Rumsu village. Overnight stay at Rumsu base camp.

Day 2 :Adventure activity day.

Start the day with a short PT exercise(all the days). Post breakfast participants will get indulged in Rappelling activity on a 60 feet steep rock wall. The activity happens under the strict supervision of our certified leaders with proper instructions and guidelines. Rappelling is an activity of descending against steep rock section with the help of rope. Post rappelling, participants will set out for a walk to Chichogi village to study about a Himalayan Village, their customs, architecture, food and way of life.. Overnight stay at Rumsu base camp.

Day 3 : Trek to Naya Tapru.

After breakfast we will start our trek to Naya Tapru (2,800 meters). The trek route goes through some dense forest, full of pine, fir, oak, chestnut trees. There is an ascend for the jungle and takes around 5 to 6 hours to reach to Naya Tapru.
Trekking in mountains has its share of risks so trekker has to abide by a few guidelines and stay in a certain discipline as demanded by mountains. Trekking usually involve teamwork, walking with team, helping each other and that adds more fun to the journey.
We will have our packed lunch at Ghan Kulhadi, a large plain green meadow amidst the dense forest.
Enjoy the amazing view of Manali valley from the campsite. Overnight stay in tents at Naya Tapru camp.

Day 4 : Acclimatisation Day.

Start the day with the normal routine of Yoga session and PT exercise followed by breakfast. We will the go ahead with an acclimatization walk for 3 hours to adapt with the increasing altitude.
Post lunch participants will get indulged in discussion with their leader and learn few important skills on how to handle the emergencies like shortage of food/water, igniting fire, natural treatment of common ailments, wildlife encounters, making your shelters and much more.

Day 5 : Trek to Chandrakhani and descend to Naya Tapru camp.

We will start the day early by 6 AM towards Chaklani. Chaklani offers some of the most amazing view of Manali valley. One can see many peaks like Ali Ratna, Friendship peak, Deo Tibba , Hanuman Tibba , Tiger Teeth and others.
If the weather remains good, participants can continue the trek for another couple of hours to reach to Chandrakhani Pass. The highest point of the pass is 3,660 meters. Just adjacent to the Chandrakhani Pass lies Dhana Kunnu Pass. The entire place is associated with the famous Jamdagini Rishi, one of the seven saptrishi.
We will start our descend by maximum 3 PM for Naya Tapru campsite. Overnight stay at Naya Tapru campsite.

Day 6 : Descend to base camp.

After the breakfast all the participants will start their descend for Rumsu base camp. The descent route is the same as the ascend one and takes around 4 hours. Lunch at Ghankulahi while descending.

Day 7: Drive to Kullu (Kais Gompa) and departure from Kullu.

Today starts very relaxedly in comparison to the previous four days early rising, followed by breakfast, Certificate distribution and Departure from the base camp toward Kullu via Kais Monastery. The Dhakpo Shedrupling Monastery was inaugurated by His Holiness the Dalai Lama in the month of May 2005, giving one an insight of the Buddhist culture. Following the visit to the Gompa, the Eco Trekkers will depart from the Kullu Bus stand complex, bidding goodbye to the abode of snow, Himachal Pradesh.

Is it appropriate for beginners ?

Sar Pass is an ideal trek for beginners. It is appropriate for participants who wish to experience all kinds of terrain. This trek includes forests, meadows, villages and snow-covered mountains.
The Sar pass trek offers an absolute escapade and is recommended for beginners and moderate level trekkers.

What is the main attraction ?

-Trek through forests, meadows, villages and snow clad mountains.

What is the duration ?

Sar Pass takes min of 5 nights and 6 days to start from Kasol-Grahan-Min thach-Nagaru-Biskeri thach-kasol.

What is the best time to visit ?

The best seasons to do the Sar Pass is between April mid - June mid to experience the good amount of snow on the trek.
It could be done between June mid to Oct as well but one will not any snow on the trail and chances of rain are also high.

What is the maximum altitude ?

Sar Pass – An extensive route in Parvati valley, stands at a majestic 13,800 ft. With the stunning views of jagged mountains and snow-capped peaks all around.

What is the average temperature ?

The average temperature in the daytime will be 12°C to 18°C and in night it could be 0°C to 4°C.
One must bring enough pair of clothes and best-quality trekking boots (Water proof) to cover the whole trek carefully and does not face any difficulties due to cold.

What level of fitness is required ?

Preparing yourself well before coming for and Himalayan trek is really important. Sar pass is easy-moderate trek and requires basic level of fitness.
Basic physical fitness you can achieve by routinely doing a 20-30 min cardio exercises like running, skipping, crunches, squats. Work on your calf muscles, knees and thighs.
Apart from basic physical fitness you need to be properly acclimatized before starting the trek so keep you body well hydrated and rest enough after reaching the base camp.

Is mobile network available ?

The mobile connectivity is intermittent as soon as you start the the trek from Kasol. In Grahan (2nd campsite) you will get landline facility to call in emergency. Then no network in Min Thach (3rd campsite). Nagaru (4th campsite) and Biskeri Thach (4th campsite) has good network connectivity.
